Oh you bad girl, Linz… neglecting your blog again. Sigh. Blogging just isn’t what it used to be… who’s with me? (Danielle?)
I promised some details on the juice diet, but there just aren’t many to give. We’ve had a couple of false starts but did finally stumble into the right routine. So, for you juicing enthusiasts or people out there just wanting to add some fresh juice to your already healthy diet, here’s what I’m drinking today:
Pineapple/strawberry juice – as the name suggests, this is simply juiced pineapple and strawberry. I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of juice I got from 1/2 a pineapple… most fruits require the assistance of this diet’s staple, the apple. But I was able to juice 1/2 pineapple and a handful of strawberries for a sweet and tangy concoction. Suck it, Jamba Juice.
Grapple juice – This grape/apple juice was one that I fell in love with the first time I went on a juice diet. Red grapes in particular have a strong flavor, so just a handful or two added to a couple of apples gives you a great sweet grape flavor. Eat your heart out, Welch’s.
Spinach/Carrot/Cantaloupe/Apple juice – A tip for juicing spinach: If you toss your spinach leaves in the juicer while it’s spinning, they’ll just get kicked back into the pulp bucket. Instead, turn the juicer off, load your leaves, and then put a carrot on top of them. When you turn the juicer on and [gently] press the carrot through, the leaves will get pushed through as well. Viola! Green juice. I’m a huge fan of the fruit juices but have struggled to finish my veggie juices, where most of my nutrients for the day are. So in a moment of inspiration, I added one quarter cantaloupe to my mixture this morning. Taste test – overwhelmingly passed!
(For the record, adding too much cantaloupe to any juice is weird. I don’t know why, of all the fruits I’ve juiced, I found liquid cantaloupe to be the oddest. But added to other juices for sweetness, it works well!)
